Entertains Large Audience With Program In Studio In Rockville Centre
The work of modern composers was selected by Ernesto Berumen, for a piano recital, yesterday aft-ernoon in the Music Center, Hill-side avenue, Rockville Centre. Mr. Beruman comes to Rockville Cen-tre about once a year to play for pupils of the Edith McIntosh School of Music, and their par-ents and friends. The program yesterday was the first of a series of artist recitals which the school will offer during the current sea-son. The first group which. Mr. Berumen played, yesterday, was made up of Brahms numbers. ne played "Three Ballades:" the D Minor, the D Major, and the G Minor; followed by the "Inter-mezzo in B flat minor; and "Rhap-sody in B Minor." Three Debussy compositions and a "Theme and Variations" of Chevillard formed the second group. The Debussy selections were "The Engulfed Cathedral", "Tarantelle Styrienne" and "The Girl With Flaxen Hair." The third group was varied. It included "Nenia" by Sgambati, the "Singing Brook" by Miss McIn-tosh, "Poppies" by Cyril Scott, "Scherzo" (Dance of the Genii) by Griffes, Rachmoninoff's "Prel-ude in G sharp minor" and "Chimes" (on a Russian Orthodox hymn) by Liapounoff. The capacity audience in the re-cital hall greeted the artist with enthusiastic applause, and in more than one instance, he responded with encores. Guests of the school later went to one of the larger class rooms where they had an opportunity to meet Mr. Berurnen. Refreshments were served. The next program in the series will be an organ recital, Sunday afternoon, February 14. Friday night of this week, 1 .1- pils of the school will be heard in recital at the music center.
