McINTOSH PUPILS PRESENT RECITAL
Two Selections Feature The Program Given In Rockville
Music 1 Two selections featured the pu-pils' recital of the Edith McIntosh School of Music, at the Music cen-ter, Hillside avenue, Rockville Centre, last night. One was a trio arrangement of Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" arranged by Hess fog organ and piano. Buel Smith and Miss McIntosh were at the two grand pianos, and William Calvert, at the organ which has played an important part in this season's activities at the center. The second was the first move-ment of the Mendelssohn "Con-certo for Violin," played by Robert Gabriel, advanced pupil of George Porter Smith, with Sylvia Rendel at the piano. Two voice pupils of Elwyn Car-ter sang. Miss Edna Madden sang "In the Time of Roses"; and Miss Mary Kine an Irish air, "My Love's An Arbutus," and "Don't Talk to Me of Spring," by Victor Young. Both were accompanied at the piano by Marguerite Holtz. The program opened with Schu-bert's "Moment Musical," arranged for two pianos, by Shirley Sim-mons with Miss McIntosh at the second piano. Then followed "Trau-merei," by Joan Strauss; a Heller "Etude," June Cannon; a Mac-Dowell sequence, "Marionettes—Witch—Sweetheart—and Clown," by Kathryn Schwindt. "Hun-garian Dance, No. 5," Brahms by Betty Dawson; and "Impromptu in A flat," Schubert, by George De-mott; were followed by Schar-wenka's "Polish Dance," played by Ronald Goerler, which closed the first half of the program. The two pianos were brought into play in the second half, which opened with Beethoven's "Centre Dance," played by Kathryn Schwindt and Edna Madden; which was followed by "In a Boat," and "Penthesilea," concert etude, both by Zeckwer, played by Kathleen Talbot; and "Nacht-stueck," Schumann, by Frank Tal-bot. Rachmaninoff's "Prelude in C sharp minor," was played by Marie James; the Grieg "Nocturne in C," by Thomas Emberton; and the Liszt "Liebestraum," by Jean Colley. STUDENT RECITAL
