THE TALK of SOUTHSIDE
By PAUL SCHMIDT South Side's Cyclones ran up the season's highest score against Cen-tral last week. The team played its best game so far, and extended wins to five games. Last year, Central broke South Side's winnin streak at ten games, and so the Cyclones got their revenge to the tune of 56 to 22. Even with "Jut" Moll out of ac-tion with a bad knee, there were few flaws in the scoring attack and the offense of the Cyclones. Gunther, Brindley, and Downing led the attack, taking turns at the basket, and at the end of the half they had run up a score of 30 to 9. Gunther ended up with 19 points to his credit, Brindley came next with 14 (his best score yet), and Downing had 9. Bennett, our ace defense man, netted 2 points, and Veit, who play-ed for Moll, got 4. Every man on the varsity saw action.
The "Esquires in Rhythm," one of the best dance bands in town, have been booked for the Winter Formal dance on February 1 st. It consists chiefly of South Side stu-dents, and they can really play.

SOUTH SIDE TOPS LONG BEACH 36-22
Stretches String To Six In A Row To Retain Divisional Lead
By way of warming up for to-night's section one South Shore league game with Oceanside, South Side breezed by Long Beach, 36-22 last night in an inter-sectional duel at the losers' court to stretch its victory string to six in a row. Still at the head of their divi-sion in the South Shore circuit, the Rockville representatives com-pletely outclassed their rivals, leading throughout the game to hand Long Beach its second loss in seven starts. South Side got off to an early lead and at the quarter was out in front 6-1, increasing its edge to 18-4 to leave the floor at half-time in possession of a comfortable advantage. At the three quarter mark, South Side held a decisive 32-17 lead which Long Beach never succeded in threatening during the final minutes of play. Audley Brindley stepped into the high scoring role usually occupied by Colby Gunther for South Side, dropping in 16 points against 13 for Gunther. Bill Sofield led the losers with three baskets and a foul for seven points. SOUTH SIDE AGAIN BEATS RENE
Rockville's Unbeaten High School Quintet Notches Seventh Win
With seven straight victories un-der their belts, Rockville Centre's South Side High school cagers are still established today as the standout in their section, a favor-ite for their divisional pennant and one of the foremost contenders for county-wide honors. Last but not least, the red and blue is also the county's only un-defeated quintet and with the sea-son nearing the halfway mark, stands an even chance of finishing up without a loss. The Rockville cagers checked in with a 41-29 triumph over an Ocean'side team which had been pointed especially for the game' Saturday night, and after weather-ing a stormy third period rally, romped to win in full stride. Colby Gunther again stole the spotlight for South Side while the Rockville team was further bol-stered by the return of George Moll despite a recent injury which has kept him on the sidelines for two weeks. Moll played a leading part in checking the losers' threat in the third when the Sailors dropped in 13 points to come within three points of tying the score. South Side came back with 13 markers of its own in the fourth while holding Oceanside to four counters to squelch any remaining bids by the home team. Gunther with seven baskets and a foul for 15 points won scoring honors while Charlie Aubert led Oceanside with 10.
