STANLEY ,CHAPPLE Stanley Chapple, noted English lecturer and conductor, who will give the first in a series of illus-trated talks on the "Enjoyment of Music" at the Edith McIntosh School of Music, Friday evening, January 31. Others will follow on February 14, 28 and March 7.

Stanley Chappel To Give Talks at McIntosh Studio
The Edith McIntosh School of Music will present Stanley Chap-ple, noted English musician, author and lecturer in a series of illus-trated talks on "The Enjoyment of Music" through an understanding of musical style, on Friday eve-nings, January 31st, February 14th and February 28th and March 7th. Mr. Chapple was born in Lon-don on October 29th, 1900. At the age of eight he won ascholarship at the London Academy of Music, where he obtained his musical edu-cation. His conducting career be-gan at the age of sixteen with per-formances of light opera. In 1922 he formed the Modern Chamber Orchestra, the first of its kind in England, and gave many first per-formances of the "new music" of that period. From 1924 to 1930 engaged his services as conductor the Vocalion Gramophone Company in chief. During the years 1927-1939 many tours of the Continent were undertaken, including appear-ances with the Berlin Philhar-monic, Vienna Symphony, Hague Symphony and Warsaw Philhar-monic. In his native England he has been a regular guest conduc-tor of B.B.C. Orchestra since its inception in 1923, and in addition, has been conductor of the Robert Mayer concerts for children. In the operatic field, Stanley Chapple was repetiteur and assistant conductor of the British National Opera Company from 1921 to 1924, and was in charge of the opera classes and productions at the Guildhall School of Music, 1935-1939.
He was engaged by the London Symphony Orchestra for their regular symphonic series and for their special Mozart programs, in addition to appearances with many other English Orchestras.
For the Festival of the International Society of Contemporary Music held in Poland in 1939, Stanley Chapple was the chosen conductor of the English and Spanish sections.
In America his activities include being as-sistant to Dr. Koussevitzky at The Berkshire Music Center and engagements as guest con-ductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Boston and Providence.
Stanley Chapple is to-day one of the most successful lecturers on musical subjects. His tours take him to universities, colleges, clubs and conventions of musicians all over the country.
His books, particularly his "Language of Harmony," "Class Way to the Keyboard" and "Principles of Musicianship" are best sellers and will be found in every music library. Stanley Chapple—through his books and his lectures—takes the spotlight in the ever-increasing efforts toward a general musical education of the American people. ENJOYMENT OF MUSIC SERIES
