BUSY TER ENDS 111. MUSIC CENTER
New Building, Opened Jan. 12, Fills Community Need; At-tracts Many Visitors
The first season of the new Music Center and the 15th of the Edith Mc-Intosh School of Music ended Satur-day after the buriest year in its hi: tory. The high spot of the year was the formal opening, January 12, of the new building, planned especially to house the school. The center has at-tracted hundreds of visitors and has been the scene of many events of in-terest. There have been five pupils' recitals, and concerts by Ernesto Berumen and Frank LaForge, concert pianists. Portions of the building have in rented for evening, afternoon and Sunday morning sessions covering a variety of interests, from purely social to dancing classes, musicals and re-ligious meetings, apaprently filling an unanticipated community need. Because the year's registration has been well above other years, the teaching staff has been exceptionally busy. The personnel remains the same, and wil Icontinue for next sea-son, which opens September 8. The staff includes Miss McIntosh, teach-ing piano, organ and harmony; Mrs. Erna Luetscher, piano; George Porter Smith, violin; Margaret Chtristy (substituting for Miss Marion Noyes), cello, and Marion Marsh Bannerman, harp: with Miss Elizabeth Knowles, secretary. Many of the pupils have appeared on musical programs in the school and community and have won signal success in the Nassau Philharmonic auditions. Medals awarded by the Nassau Daily Review were won by 37 students (1" of them gold medals and 12 silver) as well as a cup awarded to the junior trio.
